The Gina Gold Show is an Oakland-based performance and film project that brings together a diverse group of actors to create boundary-pushing comedy while fostering creative independence and artistic community.

Gina Gold got her start at BCAT—Brooklyn Cable Access Television—on channel 356 where she held the coveted 1AM Monday morning slot. Inspired by comedians like Carol Burnett and Lewis CK, Gina boldly pokes fun at her own idiosyncrasies as an African-American Bay Area native who is really from Queens. A frustrated artist who is compulsive about almost everything, has ADD and poor impulse control, Gina is neurotic, biting and hilarious when taking on the issues of racism, sexism, ageism & welfare.

The show, a collection of short vignettes, seeks to create work for a broader pool of talent, to be, as Gina says, a kind of “SNL for the ‘disenfranchised’, everyday people who have something to contribute artistically but whom you probably wouldn’t see on regular media. So a bunch of angsty misfits try to find healing at the Sacred Breath Actualization Center, a grandma learns to krump, and I try to pretend that it’s not my 1994 Toyota Tercel parked in the lot at my daughter’s upscale private school.”

About the show’s collaborative process, Director of Photography Masaya Tamagai says, “It started off that we were subjecting ourselves to Gina’s irreverent and often bizarre imagination; but in the process, the show has developed into a welcoming community of artists.”
